OLA’S CIVIC ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVE

How Does Your Community Work? Where Do You Fit In?

OLA's Civic Engagement initiative makes civic life accessible, engaging, and easy to understand for communities across the East End. Through bilingual, nonpartisan resources, we help neighbors learn how government works, how its decisions shape everyday life, and the many ways to take part.

Choices made at town hall, in Albany, and in Washington all reach our homes, schools, and workplaces. Change starts locally. Our goal is to give people the information and tools to make their own choices and raise their voices in the communities they call home.

LEARN HOW DECISIONS ARE MADE

Government decisions shape everyday life on the East End, from schools and housing to roads and public safety. Learn who represents you, what each level of government does, how decisions are made, and how to make your voice heard as a voter or as a candidate, locally and beyond.

MAKE AN INFORMED CHOICE

Voting is one of the most powerful ways to make your voice heard. Explore simple, nonpartisan guides to help you register, understand your options for voting in New York, find your polling place, and keep track of key dates.

Not eligible to vote? You can still make an impact. Your experience matters. Find ways to share what you care about with the eligible voters in your life.

CIVIC LIFE = COMMUNITY LIFE

There is more than one way to take part.

Start with a question. Learn about a local decision. Show up for your community. OLA can help you find a next step.
